Man crossing Luohu border caught smuggling 104 CPUs in two detergent bottles
Shenzhen customs intercepted a man at the Luohu border last Wednesday (Mar 22) as he was caught attempting to smuggle 104 central processing units (CPU) in two empty detergent bottles.
The smuggling activity was uncovered as mainland customs officers discovered a traveler had brought only two bottles of detergent when he was about to cross the border into the mainland from Hong Kong.
The man, in a black T-shirt and without any backpack, was only carrying a plastic bag with two detergent bottles in it.
As officers inspected the content of the bottles, they didn't pour out “detergent” but 104 pieces of CPU wrapped into 13 sticks, each containing eight pieces.
Mainland customs reminded the public that under Chinese laws, anyone who transports, delivers, carries, or posts restricted and prohibited articles or taxable goods but bypasses customs inspection commits a smuggling act.
And offenders will face legal liability, customs added.
