Man collapses on Sai Kung hike with friend, later pronounced dead
A 56-year-old man fell into a coma when hiking with his friend in Sai Kung and was pronounced dead shortly after he was flown to a hospital on Saturday.
The hiker, John, and his friend were hiking from Pak Tam Au to Ham Tin at around 11.19 am when he suddenly lost consciousness with blood coming out of his nose and mouth.
The friend immediately filed a police report, and John was flown to Eastern Hospital on a helicopter dispatched by the Government Flying Service.
Paramedics used an automatic chest compression machine to help with John’s breathing, but he was eventually pronounced dead after he was rushed to the hospital.
It was understood that they had been hiking for about two hours at the time and were about 1.5 km away from their destination at Ham Tin.
