Man arrested over trafficking nearly HK$100m in drug
Police arrested a 38-year-old man in Yuen Long and seized 113 kilograms of cocaine with a market value of around HK$97.5 million.
Officers of the Narcotics Bureau announced on Tuesday the arrest of an unemployed man in an industrial building flat in Wang Yip Street East after receiving a source claiming criminals used the flat as a warehouse for drugs.
Officers launched an ambush yesterday afternoon, spotting and subduing a suspect at the flat. A total of 2,512 packs of cocaine were seized.
The drugs were all wrapped in metallic paper and covered with cardboards, along with some goods inside the boxes with logos indicating imported from South America.
"It is believed that the suspects attempted to disguise drugs as legally imported goods to escape from the X-ray examination," said the police.
Fan, the arrestee was in custody with a charge of trafficking drugs and will be on trial on Wednesday morning.
