The police received a report at 9.30pm last Friday, saying a 12-year-old girl was assaulted by a local man.

The girl was at a badminton court at Chevalier Garden when the man sexually assaulted her and fled.

She then told her guardian who accompanied her to report the incident.

After investigations, police arrested a 20-year-old air-conditioning mechanic at about 7pm last night.

He was taken back to his home, where officers seized clothing which he worn when he committed the offense.

The police said that the arrested man may have been involved in similar cases and called upon victims to contact the police as soon as possible at 3661 2632.

The police also reminded the public that indecent assault is a serious offense that carries a penalty of up to 10 years in prison.
