Police said at around 5.30pm on Tuesday, the man was said to have assaulted a 47-year-old man Tang with a hard object near Un Kin House of Un Chau Estate after he started an argument with Tang who was about to have a smoke.

The man then fled the scene and assaulted another 60-year-old man Lai randomly near the shopping center 10 minutes after the first attack, striking Lai on the back of his head, the force said, adding his motives remain unknown.

The two injured were later brought to the hospital for treatment.

It was understood that five similar incidents have happened in the area within two days.

Police officers, along with the canine unit, on Wednesday morning entered Un Kin House for investigation. A man was arrest in the evening and the force classified the case as assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

A resident living in the neighborhood told reporters this morning that she had seen quite a large number of people in the area suffering from mental disorders, with some of them talking to themselves on the streets.

“These attacks are unavoidable, we could only take extra precautions on our own,” she said.
