Mainland tourists praise meal cruise arrangements as city regulates budget tour groups over resident complaints
Meal cruises have received rave reviews from mainland budget tour groups after it was arranged for them to have meals at sea to address the surging complaints of overcrowded streets and disturbance to residents.
The first group of tourists arrived at Kwun Tong Vehicular Ferry Pier via tour bus on Wednesday and got on the Bauhinia dining cruise to enjoy their meal.
The cruise only used five out of the 32 tables provided onboard, where the tourists decided to order the HK$64 meal set with seven dishes and one soup, along with white rice.
Many mainland tourists were seen taking pictures and praising the view of Victoria Harbour, with some stating that the feeling of eating at home and on the cruise felt utterly different.
Many claim that this is a unique experience.
Each round of the lunch cruise will take about 45 minutes. The cruise also had a small stage and dance floor and might have band performances or allow the tourists to dance.
The manager of the cruises stated that this has hopefully brought a win-win scenario by diverting the large number of mainland tourists who gathered in Hung Hom and To Kwa Wan, which will reduce the traffic burden and nuisance to the public while also promoting Hong Kong tourism and establishing a positive image.
He points out the cruises are only 45 minutes for the first day and might adjust based on tourist response, and he hopes the government will allow tourists to board at Hung Hom and Tsim Sha Tsui for convenience's sake.
