‘Happy Hong Kong’ on the fast track: Home and Youth Affairs Bureau
Hong Kong’s Secretary for Home and Youth Affairs Alice Mak Mei-kuen said on Thursday that the "Happy Hong Kong" campaign will be fast-tracked and hopefully tie in with the e-voucher scheme to boost local consumption.
Finance chief Paul Chan Mo-po announced in his Budget yesterday that the government will hold large-scale food fairs, gourmet marketplaces, and a sea-land summer carnival under the campaign in a bid to bring more joy to the community.
Speaking to reporters today, Mak said the Home and Youth Affairs Bureau will take the lead on holding the food fairs, and setting up large-scale weekend markets across the territory.
She said authorities have earmarked HK$200 million for the events, and she expected the food fairs to be ready as soon as possible to tie in with the first round of HK$3,000 consumption vouchers to be distributed in April to help stimulate local consumption and boost the economy.
Mak also said the weekend markets will also connect with younger generations, providing youths with opportunities to try operating their businesses at the markets.
Meanwhile, she said under the campaign, organizations like the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority, Hong Kong Disneyland, and Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation will each hold themed fairs, carnivals, or other activities this year.
