Long-haul service of HK’s high-speed rail link to resume in phases starting March 11
The SAR government announced on Friday that after co-ordinating with mainland authorities and relevant railway operators, long-haul services of the Hong Kong Section of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link will gradually resume starting from next Saturday (March 11).
The first phase of service resumption will see routes running between Hong Kong West Kowloon Station (WKS) and three stations, namely Chaoshan, Shantou and Zhaoqingdong, relaunched.
Meanwhile, starting from April 1, the long-haul services of the XRL Hong Kong Section will fully resume, connecting Hong Kong and long-haul destinations outside Guangdong Province.
According to the announcement, by taking long-haul trains on routes to be relaunched next Saturday, the public can reach 11 intermediate stations, namely Chaoyang, Foshanxi, Houmen, Huidong, Huizhounan, Kuitan, Lufeng, Puning, Sanshuinan, Shanwei and Shenzhen Pingshan.
The first train of the day traveling from WKS to Guangzhoudong Station will not serve two intermediate stations, namely Futian and Dongguan, with the journey time expected to be shortened by more than 10 minutes.
Also, the departure time of the first train from Guangzhounan Station to WKS will be advanced to 7.05am and its arrival time will be advanced to 8.14am accordingly.
“This will provide greater convenience to visitors traveling between Hong Kong and the Mainland," the government spokesman said.
