Lei Garden in New Town Plaza closed down after 37 years
Lei Garden's Sha Tin branch, which was in New Town Plaza since 1984, closed down after 37 years.
The restaurant chain said the last business day of their Sha Tin branch was last Wednesday, which marked the end of the tenancy agreement. It thanked its customers for their continued support and asked them to visit other branches.
News regarding the closure of the Sha Tin branch is announced on the company’s webpage.
Netizens feeling sorry for the branch, commented that they have been visiting the restaurant since its opening. They even asked “why are Lei Garden leaving Sha Tin?”
Lei Garden’s Sha Tin Branch is the only outlet that has never been relocated.
The Lei Garden Restaurant Group was established by Chan Shu Kit in 1973 and he started his first restaurant in Sham Shui Po.
Chan’s father was the famous Kuomintang General Chan Ji-tang, who governed Guangdong and Guangxi provinces in the 30s.
