The city’s legislature has canceled its farewell banquet with outgoing Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, citing Covid-19 concerns.
The Legco Secretariat said on Friday there has been a rebound in the number of infections in Hong Kong, and hosting a big banquet would unavoidably increase the risk of transmission.
"The number of infections related to the legislature has also been on an increasing trend, with two councilors recently infected," it said.
The secretariat said the lunch banquet planned for June 21 has been canceled out of caution, after discussions between the Legco president, the Chief Executive's Office, and councilors.
Lawmakers Sunny Tan and Kenneth Lau – who's also a member of the Executive Council – came down with
Covid in the past week.
