LeaveHomeSafe mandate starts today for access to restaurants

Scanning the LeaveHomeSafe QR code is mandatory for anyone entering restaurants, bars, sports centers and entertainment venues from today.
People aged under 15 or over 65, or people with disabilities who cannot use the app will be exempted from the mandate. They are allowed to write down their personal details, including their name and contact number, on a paper form.

Meanwhile, there will be no more Type A restaurants where diners are not required to leave their information. All eateries will have to comply with type B, C, or D restaurants rules.

All type B restaurants will be allowed to run till 11 pm, an hour more than the previous 10 pm curtain call.

Staff members of type B restaurants will also subject to weekly Covid tests if they were not vaccinated.

According to the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department's statistics, there are around 11,000 type B restaurants in Hong Kong. The number of type C and D restaurants is 3,000 and 2,400, respectively.

Type C restaurants can seat six people at each table and operate until midnight. All staff members must have received the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

Type D establishments can seat up to 12 people per table and run till 2 am. Staff members should be fully vaccinated, and at least two-thirds of people at the same table must have received the first dose of the vaccine.
