Law interpretation of NPC is of most significance to national security: CE
The Chief Executive reiterated on Sunday that seeking Beijing's interpretation for determining whether an oversea lawyer would be allowed to participate in national security law cases is of most significance to national security.
In the 2022 Constitution Day Seminar today, John Lee Ka-chiu said the request of the SAR government to the National People's Congress Standing Committee for interpretation based on Article 65 of the security law, will clarify the legislative intent and objectives of the law.
He added that as the Chief Executive of the HKSAR and Chairperson of the Committee for Safeguarding National Security of the HKSAR, it is his duty to seek NPCSC to interpret the relevant provisions of the national security law to clarify the question.
Luo Huining, Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in Hong Kong, spoke via a video clip in the same seminar endorsing the Hong Kong government confirming national security under the principle of the Constitution.
"Only to get rid of the colonial mindset can Hong Kong citizens embed the spirit of the Constitution in their heart," he said.
