Land development among policy address suggestions from pro-establishment camp
Public housing is one of the key areas that the pro-establishment camp put their focus on as they today gave their suggestions to Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor on the upcoming policy address to be announced on October 6.
Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong (DAB) suggested developing up to 8,100 hectares of land in New Territories North to house 1 million population.
The development is also expected to offer 400,000 flats and 650,000 jobs as an economic region jointly operated by Hong Kong and Shenzhen.
The DAB also recommended speeding up the construction work for public housing using modular integrated construction, which compartments could be manufactured in factories and transported to the site for installation.
The Business and Professionals Alliance for Hong Kong (BPA) also targeted New Territories North, where they wish to push forward large-scale public housing reconstruction projects.
BPA said the New Territories should be transformed into “an area of comfortable residence, harmony and innovation.” The government should also rebuild 26 old public estates to tackle the problem of subdivided units, the party said.
Housing aside, DAB also urged the government to reopen borders between Hong Kong and Mainland by October 1.
BPA on the other hand advised the government to reboot legislation for Basic Law Article 23 and legislation on combating fake news and false information.
It also hoped the government will soon facilitate the arrangement to allow Hong Kong civil servants to take office in Mainland.
