Lam Tai-fai College to award HK$625,000 to karateka Grace Lau Mo-sheung
Lam Tai-fai will have to fetch HK$625,000 more from his pocket as the secondary school he founded churns out another Olympics medalist.
Grace Lau Mo-sheung won the women's kata bronze medal match in karate, adding the total number of medals won by the Hong Kong team in the Tokyo Olympics to a historic five.
She is also the second medalist from Lam Tai Fai College following Edgar Cheung Ka-long who won the gold medal in Men's Foil.
Lam Tai Fai College established the "Outstanding Athletes Incentive Awards Scheme" in 2017 to reward students and alumni who won medals in major games for their efforts in training and competition, as well as contribution to the Hong Kong sports scene.
The amount of the award is 50 percent of each award under the Hong Kong Sports Institute Henderson Land Commendation Scheme for Elite Athletes.
Therefore, the Chairman of the Hong Kong Sports Institute, Lam Tai-fai, who is also the founder of Lam Tai Fai College, is to spend a total of HK$3.1 million in total to the two athletes.
Lam highly praised the superb performance of the two. The college also said that their achievements affirm our school's philosophy and aspirations.
The school has cultivated many medalists in major international tournaments over the past 17 years. In this year's Tokyo Olympics, among the 46 representatives from Hong Kong, 4 of them came from Lam Tai Fai College.
