Lam Cheuk-ting to stay remanded until scheduled trial on December 1
Former lawmaker Lam Cheuk-ting is scheduled to appear in a six-day trial at the Eastern Magistrates' Court from December 1 for revealing an Independent Commission Against Corruption investigation over a police commander.
He appeared in court today, and will be remanded until the trial.
Lam, 44, allegedly revealed assistant district commander of Yuen Long police district Yau Nai-keung was under investigation by the ICAC in connection with the infamous assaults in Yuen Long MTR station on July 21, 2019.
Lam was charged with three courts of disclosing the identity of a person under investigation by the commission on December 30, 2019, January 21, 2020, and July 16, 2020.
The defense admitted Lam named Yau, but would dispute whether the content of Lam's disclosure was restricted and whether he had a reasonable excuse.
Prosecution will summon three witnesses, while defense will summon another three on top of Lam himself.
Three witnesses will testify in the trial for the prosecution, three more in addition to Lam were called by them and they will also present about three newsreels.
The trial is expected to last 5 to 6 days. The prosecution said that the authenticity and relevance of the footage may be disputed.
