John Lee vows to snatch overseas talents for Hong Kong
Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu vowed to snatch overseas talents in the field of medics, innovation and high-end technology for Hong Kong as he spoke to over 100 citizens in his first public consultation session for his policy address to be released in October.
Lee also stressed the government highly value youth development and added the new Home and Youth Affairs Bureau will focus on helping youngsters design long-term plans and other issues like employment, buying property, and participating in politics.
Lee attended this consultation session in Tsuen Wan Government Secondary School on Saturday, accompanied by other principal officials, including Chief Secretary Chan Kwok-ki, Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po, and Secretary for Justice Paul Lam Ting-kwok.
The theme of this consultation session included land, housing and transportation. A citizen suggested building a flyover in the Tolo Harbour that connects to Kowloon to solve jamming traffics, while another citizen wanted the government to build more public housing units to shorten citizens' waiting time.
Another similar suggestion was to use the land at the Tuen Mun Road bus interchange to build more housing units.
Lee said he understood that citizens care very much about housing issues and noted that the government has set up two special task forces to tackle relevant matters.
Apart from snatching overseas talents, the Hong Kong leader added he also cares about the support for local elites and education authorities will focus on applied learning subjects, allowing students to develop a career path of their own interest.
Lee said today's interaction with the public has been fruitful and he will actively consider highlighting citizens' opinions in his first policy address.
