Jack Ma Yun, the founder of Alibaba Group (9988), is now an honorary professor at the Business School of the University of Hong Kong, according to an announcement released by the school on Friday.
The school’s website says 58-year-old Ma’s focuses lie in the field of management and strategy.
Reports earlier said Ma’s appointment took effect on April 1, and his three-year term will end in March 2026.
Sources also said Ma will focus on research in finance, agriculture, and enterprise innovation, and he doesn't plan to stage any public seminar or speech.
Ma graduated from Hangzhou Normal University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English education.
The former English teacher has been awarded honorary doctorates from several universities, including HKU, Tel Aviv University, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, National Taiwan Normal University, and De La Salle University.
In 1999, Ma founded
Alibaba Group and served as its executive chairman from 1999 to September 2019. He also served as
Alibaba Group’s chief executive officer from 1999 to May 2013.
