Insurance agent convicted of fraud as falsely claiming HK$120,000 in bonus and commission
An insurance agent was charged for defrauding commissions and bonuses of over HK$120,000 by making false representations about handling several insurance policies.
Wong Chau-ying, the 26-year-old former FWD Life Insurance Company insurance agent, pleaded guilty to two counts of conspiracy to defraud when standing before Magistrate Stephanie Tsui May-har at the Kowloon City Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
The court learned Wong conducted his crime between December 2018 to June 2019.
During the material time, the company received three insurance application forms submitted via Wong’s computer account and approved to release commissions to the defendant of over HK$75,000 and bonuses of about HK$46,000 as believing he handled the applications.
However, in a graft probe conducted by Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC), the three application forms were found not handled by Wong. He was out of Hong Kong when two of the involved application forms were submitted to the company via his computer account.
Wong was bailed out for release and will be on trial for his sentence, which is scheduled on December 19.
