Ice Hockey association in hot water after not collecting media kit before Bosnia tournament
The Hong Kong Ice Hockey Association is under fire after it was discovered that they did not collect a media toolkit from the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong before departing for the tournament in Bosnia, where the wrong song was played instead of the Chinese national anthem.
The Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong announced on Friday that it wants a report from the Hong Kong Ice Hockey Association as to why it did not collect its media toolkit, specifically designed to avoid issues with the national anthem, which is played at events.
A banned protest song that appears in some online searches as the national anthem was played instead of ‘March of the Volunteers’ at a Hong Kong ice hockey team match in Bosnia on Tuesday.
As per a committee spokesperson, both the Hong Kong Ice Hockey Association and the International Ice Hockey Federation have been requested to provide an investigation report by Friday, explaining why the relevant guidelines were not adhered to.
Before an international tournament, all member sports associations must pick up the toolkit, which contains two storage devices containing recordings of the national anthem.
In addition, the committee has warned international sports organizations not to download the anthem from unofficial sources.
