Huge crowd seen at ports to HK on last day of Easter holidays
Flocks of citizens were seen returning to Hong Kong on the last day of the four-day Easter holiday, with many returning to the city through the high-speed rail at Hong Kong West Kowloon Station.
The Immigration Department expected the number of arrivals to peak on Monday. As of 10 am today, more than 42,000 people were recorded entering Hong Kong.
More MTR staff were dispatched to the Hong Kong West Kowloon Station in view of the surge in returning residents.
A returning resident who start work today told reporters he couldn't find any high-speed rail tickets for yesterday night (April 9) and had to resort to buying today's ticket to return to Hong Kong.
Some parents have also chosen to come back to Hong Kong a day earlier since their children have classes on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, a tourist from Guangzhou on a 2-day trip to Hong Kong and Macau said he got tickets beforehand so he wouldn't have to worry about the tickets during the public holidays.
Some tourists also noted that the border clearance was still smooth despite the surge in traffic.
