More than 134,000 individuals are expected to benefit from a donation from The Hongkong Bank Foundation which will equip care homes with medical equipment, quarantine supplies and temporary staff to control Covid-19 infections.
The donation is part of a HK$100 million
Covid-19 relief initiative. The first two projects were launched in late February and March respectively.
Through the Hong Kong Council of Social Service, the initiative will provide equipment including mobile air purifiers, oxygen concentrators, rapid antigen test kits, as well as professional deep cleaning services.
The programme will also reach out to non-governmental organizations to provide services to home-bound or bedridden individuals. Over 200 doctors, 400 nurses and 400 care ambassadors will conduct 30,000 home vaccination visits in the coming months.
The Hong Kong Red Cross
Covid-19 Support Hotline has also handled 9,000 calls, and delivered care packages to over 5,600 people.
“Hundreds of residential care homes and facilities for people with disabilities have recorded infections in this wave of the pandemic,” said Peter Wong Tung-shun, Chairman of the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited and The Hongkong Bank Foundation. “I would like to acknowledge the extraordinary efforts of our NGO partners, who are supporting vulnerable groups in Hong Kong in different ways.”
