Housing minister reveals the initial design of Light Public Housing unit
The initial design of the new Light Public Housing (LPH) unit was revealed to the public by the Secretary for Housing Winnie Ho Wing-yin, on Facebook to answer citizens' curiosity.
In her post published Tuesday, Ho said many are keen to find out what an LPH unit may look like after Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu announced the plan in his maiden policy address.
Although no actual unit is available for showcasing, Ho said her colleagues from the Architectural Services Department have worked out a preliminary drawing plan for a unit suitable for a family of four to five.
The design of a bare unit with minimal decoration included an independent toilet and an open kitchen next to the living room.
There are two air conditioners, one above the kitchen and the other in the bedroom, separated by a wall. The water heater will be included as well, Ho added.
Two other pictures portrayed how the unit was decorated with furniture.
The LPH will be built with a standardised simple design and the Modular Integrated Construction approach. The rent will be 90 percent of traditional public housing, allowing those who have been waiting for public rental housing for three years or more to apply for admission.
According to government sources, authorities have already targeted six plots of public and private land, and construction of the light public housing scheme will commence next year. The first batch of around 1,000 units is expected to be available in 2024/25.
