Housing Authority Cracks Down on Tenancy Abuse with New Policies
The Housing Authority is updating its tenant policies in public housing in an effort to combat tenancy abuse.
The new rules will require tenants to declare their incomes and assets, including property ownership, every two years after moving in.
The temporary stay for well-off tenants will be shortened from one year to four months, and these tenants will be required to move out.
Tenants who make false submissions or breach lease terms will be evicted and banned from reapplying for public housing for five years.
The Authority will also only allow one adult offspring to be added to a tenancy agreement and will bar elderly tenants from adding more adult children.
The penalty point scheme for public housing tenants will be tightened, with increased points for environmental hygiene and tenancy agreement violations.
The new measures will take effect in the fourth quarter of 2023.
