Hot weather to last till Sunday with a few showers
A southwesterly airstream will affect the coast of southern China in the next few days, where it will be persistently hot with a few showers, the Observatory said.
It was expected that a trough of low pressure would linger over the coast of Guangdong early to midweek next week and bring thundery showers.
Temperatures in Hong Kong will range from 28 to 32 degrees Thursday to Saturday, with sunny periods and a few showers, while Sunday will be hot with sunny intervals and a few showers.
Next Monday to Tuesday will be mainly cloudy with occasional showers and a few thunderstorms. Temperatures will range from 27 to 30 degrees. Next Wednesday will be cloudy with occasional showers and a few thunderstorms, while Thursday and Friday will be mainly cloudy with a few showers.
In addition, the Observatory issued a Thunderstorm Warning on Wednesday at noon and extended it till 3pm.
Due to the thunderstorm, Ngong Ping 360 announced to suspend its cable car services starting from 12.13pm and already resumed as the weather gets better.
The Observatory released its Seasonal Forecast for Summer 2022, which said Hong Kong is expecting normal to above-normal temperatures and normal to above-normal rainfall, that is, an average temperature between 28.4 and 28.9 degrees or above 28.9 degrees; and average precipitation between 1101mm and 1560mm or above 1560mm.
Under the influence of global warming and local urbanization, summer temperatures in Hong Kong exhibit a significant long-term rising trend. The chance of normal to above-normal summer temperature is generally higher. The majority of climate models around the world forecast normal to above-normal temperatures over southern China this summer.
