Hongkongers had a warmer than expected March, weather watchdog reveals
The Hong Kong Observatory stated that the northeast monsoon over southern China was generally weaker than average for most of March, causing the temperature to be warmer than expected in the city.
The monthly mean temperature of 21.3 degrees, monthly mean minimum temperature of 19.4 degrees, and monthly mean maximum temperature of 24.2 degrees were 1.8 degrees, 1.8 degrees, and 2.3 degrees above their corresponding normals, respectively.
Rainfall in the month was 70.3 millimeters, seven percent below the expected figure, with an accumulated rainfall of 90.1 millimeters in the first three months of the year, a 39 percent drop compared to the average.
According to the Observatory, the northeast monsoon affecting southern China was generally weaker than usual for most of March, making Hong Kong much warmer than average.
The HKO pointed out no tropical cyclones were recorded in the South China Sea and the western North Pacific in March 2023.
