Hongkongers embrace the chill on coldest day this winter
A cold weather warning is in force as the temperature was 9.9 degrees Celsius on Monday morning – the coldest day this winter so far.
An intense winter monsoon will continue to bring cold weather to Guangdong on Tuesday. With the weather improving over the coast of Southern China, temperatures will rise slightly during the day over the region in the middle and latter parts of this week, but it will remain cool in the morning and at night.
The temperature in urban areas is forecast to be between 12 to 17 degrees on Tuesday. It will be cold in the morning, and the day will be dry with sunny intervals.
Under the influence of an easterly airstream, the weather is expected to be cloudier, with one or two rain patches over the coast of Guangdong early next week.
While most citizens go out in coats and scarves, some brace the cold when continuing their daily swim in the sea.
A man surnamed Tsang, 74, headed for a swim in the waters in front of Tai Wan Shan Park in Hung Hom at 5.15am Monday.
"It's raining ... it's colder than usual," the man in swimming shorts told reporters when he left the harbor front in a leisurely stroll.
Chan Cheuk-ming aka "Ming Gor", the owner of Pei Ho Counterparts, said hot meals and 100 jackets have been distributed to homeless people in Yau Tsim Mong district.
