A 39-year-old Hongkonger Leon Ng has won the top 25 Canadian Immigrant Awards hosted by Canadian Immigrant, a Canadian multimedia company.
Ng previously won in the category of “Business in Vancouver’s Top 40 under 40" in 2015. He was also named in the “500 Most Influential Business Leaders” list this year.
Emigrating to Vancouver at the age of 13, Ng recalled having encountered racism in Canada.
"I always stood out, so I encountered a lot of adversity," Ng said.
He said that he reached crossroads in his twenties when he was torn between returning to Hong Kong and staying in Canada.
"In the end, I chose to stay because I love film-making, creativity and art, and Canada was a better place for me to develop those passions," Ng said.
Ng is now the founder and CEO of LNG studios, which he said is the culmination of his professional dreams.
He said that the studio was a creative visualization agency, with a technology-first approach to projects. It provided services that included 3D photorealistic rendering, 3D floor plans and video production.
At the beginning of the
Covid-19 pandemic, Ng used 3D printing machines to produce masks for frontline medical staff, saying that it was important for him to contribute his talents and volunteer.
In the future, he said that he would use his expertise to serve the community. He revealed that he will work with corporations, combining his passion for technology with his knowledge of Canadian aboriginal history, to provide digital learning experiences in collaboration with the Museum of Human Rights in Winnipeg.
Ng told other immigrants to "make friends outside your comfort zone, that is the quickest and best way to integrate."
"We tend to be attracted to similar people in a new environment but different social groups will diversify our experience and provide more learning opportunities," he said.
Another immigrant, Jaclyn Zhang Jie from the mainland, was also named in the awards.
Zhang is the president of Futurevic Global Sourcing Inc, which she has built into a pioneer in imports, exports, and marketing to Canadian health-care services and products.
"My top tip to newcomers to Canada is love Canada, be optimistic, be hopeful, be confident, help and support others, and do your own advantages in industry and profession," she said.
