Hong Kong youngsters to chat with astronauts on Tiangong space station
Nie Haisheng, Liu Boming and Tang Hongbo are the first long-term inhabitants of the space station.
Hong Kong youngsters have the chance next month to engage in real-time conversation with three Chinese astronauts on the Tiangong space station.
The trio – Nie Haisheng, Liu Boming and Tang Hongbo – travelled into orbit in June to spend three months aboard the space station’s core Tianhe module some 380km from Earth. They are the space station’s first long-term inhabitants.
The China Manned Space Agency will use communications technology to arrange real-time dialogue with the astronauts on September 3, according to the Hong Kong China News Agency.
The astronauts will give a virtual tour of the core module and answer questions collected in advance.
Those interested in taking part should submit their questions on the Hong Kong STEM Education Alliance’s website from August 23.
It was reported that youngsters would have face-to-face exchanges with Chinese space engineers and astronauts in training on the ground.
More details were expected to be released at a later date.
The team travelled into orbit aboard the Shenzhou-12 spacecraft and have been living on Tianhe – the first module of the Tiangong space station – where they are carrying out tests, maintenance and spacewalks.
On Friday, the crew undertook a second spacewalk – the first was on July 4 – after staying in the core module for more than 60 days. They are due to return to Earth in about a month.
