Hong Kong to roll out big dumpsters to tackle back-alley litter: source
The SAR government is set to introduce large dumpsters in a trial program to tackle back-alley litter, thus, cope with rodent infestation, according to source.
The trial program is expected to kick off by late October and will be part of a citywide cleaning operation led by Deputy Chief Secretary for Administration Warner Cheuk Wing-hing.
Five to 10 back alleys adjacent to food premises will be selected for the two to three month trial, with authorities placing a number of 250-liter bins for restaurants to discard their trash. However, it is understood that the eateries will have to empty the trash bins at their own expense.
Source said the practice will be introduced to other locations should the trial go well, whereas authorities will also step up inspection to tackle illegal waste disposal.
