The Centre for Health Protection said on Saturday it is now investigating a confirmed Mpox case involving a 59-year-old man who has traveled to the Guangdong Province multiple times in April.
The case involves a 59-year-old male patient with chronic disease. He had developed a body rash since April 25 and visited the Yau Ma Tei Male Social Hygiene Clinic of the Department of Health on April 27.
The CHP’s Public Health Laboratory Services Branch confirmed that his samples tested positive for the virus last night (Fri). He was arranged to be admitted to Princess Margaret Hospital and is now in stable condition.
An initial investigation revealed that he had high risk exposure during the incubation period. According to the patient, he has traveled to the Guangdong Province multiple times from April 2 to 19.
No epidemiological linkages between this case and other confirmed cases recorded in Hong Kong earlier are found so far. The CHP’s epidemiological investigations of the case are ongoing, including contact tracing and infection source investigation.
The CHP has reported the case to the World Health Organization and the relevant mainland authorities.
Meanwhile, the CHP urges the public, especially those subject to high risks of exposure, to take precautions and avoid close physical contact with persons or animals suspected of infection.
They should seek medical attention as soon as possible if they experience relevant symptoms, including rash, fever, chills, swollen lymph nodes, exhaustion, muscle pain, and severe headaches.
