Hong Kong reported five new imported Covid cases today, with three of the patients found carrying the mutant strain of the coronavirus.
The three patients infected with the mutant strain of the
coronavirus were asymptomatic.
Among the three patients was a 52-year-old woman who returned from Sri Lanka and underwent quarantine at the Ramada Hong Kong Grand hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui. She was found carrying the N501Y mutant strain.
The other patient was a 33-year-old man who returned from Bangladesh and underwent quarantine at the Regal Oriental Hotel in Kowloon City. He was found carrying the L452R mutant strain.
The third patient was a 24-year-old woman arriving in Hong Kong from Tanzania. She was found carrying the L452R mutant strain.
The remaining two patients include a 69-year-old woman returning from the United States and underwent quarantine at the Regal Airport Hotel in Chek Lap Kok. She had onset of symptoms two days ago.
The Centre for Health Protection said the woman received both doses of the Sinovac
vaccine on April 7 and May 5 respectively.
The last patient was a 16-year-old woman returning from Switzerland who did not develop any symptoms. She underwent quarantine at the Sheraton Hong Kong Hotel and Towers in Tsim Sha Tsui. Two of her family members on the same flight were also diagnosed with
Covid yesterday.
There were also fewer than five preliminary positive cases today.
A total of 43 cases have been reported in the past 14 days between July 30 to August 12, including a local case with unknown sources and 42 imported cases.
