Hong Kong search-and-rescue team withdraws from Turkey
A Hong Kong search-and-rescue team that helped with rescue efforts in earthquake-struck Turkey began their journey home on Thursday after pulling four people from collapsed buildings.
The team of 59 members and two rescue dogs arrived in Turkey on Friday last week. They aided rescue efforts after a magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck Turkey and Syria last Monday.
The team successfully rescued four survivors at one of Turkey’s worst-hit provinces Hatay, with the first three pulled out of ruins in a Hatay residential area on Saturday and the fourth female survivor found in Antakya on Monday. They were all rescued way past the "golden 72 hours for rescue".
The Fire Services Department wrote on social media on Friday that the team has been withdrawn from Turkey, ending their nine-day rescue mission.
Members of the team started packing on Thursday and left behind most of their supplies, including food, water, and blankets for the quake victims.
