Both the Hong Kong men’s and women’s sabre team’s National Games were over after suffering a first-round defeat on Friday.
The two teams fight for their spot in the final eight in Tianjin this morning.
Hong Kong men’s sabre team’s Low Ho-tin, Aaron Ho Sze-long, Chan Cheuk-him, and Cyrus Chang Chi-hin, were beaten 45-39 by Henan.
Meanwhile, the women’s sabre team consists of Lam Hin-wai, Au Sin-ying, Ma Ho-chee, and Lau Wing-yi, lost to team Shandong by 45-29.
Hong Kong team’s all six athletes competing in the sabre individual event were also knocked out in the round of 32 yesterday.
After the sabre events, the foil events will start on Sunday. Hong Kong’s medal hope - Olympic gold medalist Edgar Cheung Ka-long yesterday announced he will drop out of the competition due to injuries, and had since returned to Hong Kong for treatment.
