Hong Kong’s latest unemployment rate dropped to 3.3 percent between last December and this February, with some 115,700 citizens still hunting for jobs, according to data released by the Statistics Department Thursday.
The latest rate marked a 0.1 decrease compared with the rate logged between last November and this January.
The underemployment rate also declined by 0.1 percent to 1.3 percent between December and February.
The number of underemployed people fell by around 4,200 to 47,900.
Total employment decreased by around 12,000 to 3.65 million, and the labor force also decreased by around 14,600 to 3.76 million.
During the December to February three-month period, the unemployment rate decreased in many major economic sectors. The most distinct decreases were observed in the retail sector, transportation sector, and arts, entertainment and recreation sector.
Decreases in the underemployment rate were mainly seen in the decoration, repair and maintenance for buildings sector and insurance sector.
“The unemployment and underemployment situation continued to improve,” said Secretary for Labour and Welfare Chris Sun Yuk-han.
“The labor market conditions should improve further in the near term alongside the continued return of economic activities to normalcy and the rebound in inbound tourism."
On a separate note, over 50 employers will participate in the Pursuing New Opportunities Job Fair and Greater Bay Area Youth Employment Scheme Job Expo on March 30.
The job fair is organized by the Labour Department and offers various vacancies in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area mainland cities that are suitable for fresh graduates and job seekers of different backgrounds.
