Hong Kong's No.1 public toilet located at the Peak Tower, says organization
It's official! The public toilet at the Peak Tower stood out from over 400 ones throughout the city and was crowned the best by the Hong Kong Toilet Association on Friday, a day before the World Toilet Day.
The second and third best public toilets are the ones at Stanley Municipal Services Building and at Rumsey Street Multi-story Car Park in Central respectively, meaning the top three all go to the public toilets on Hong Kong Island.
The rankings are decided by the association based on six areas, including accessibility, comfort, hygiene, safety, management and maintenance, and education.
However, the public toilets on Lung Wan Street in Sheung Shui and at Tin Ho Road Playground in Tin Shui Wai are in desperate need of a revamp, so are the mobile public toilets at country parks.
William So, president of the association, said 60 percent of public toilets they inspected saw improvement, but not for the remaining 40 percent of toilets.
So continued that most of the toilets face management issues and stressed the importance having good workers who can tackle emerging problems.
He added the Leisure and Cultural Services Department didn't put sufficient resources into their toilets and didn't care much about cleanliness, as long as the toilets could still be used.
He then suggested introducing a point deduction mechanism as the of work quality of contractors hired by the government may differ.
