Heroes come in all shapes and sizes. Sometimes, they also come in the form of a generous pizza restaurant.
Dough Bros, a popular pizzeria in Hong Kong, organized a surprise delivery last Thursday of fresh slices to those in quarantine facilities in Penny’s Bay and Lei Yue Mun, and the Dorsett Kwun Tong hotel.
“Big shout out to everyone currently holed up in government quarantine centers. Hope you enjoyed the pizza and doughnuts!” Dough Bros, which has locations in Happy Valley, Central, Kennedy Town and Wanchai, wrote on Facebook.
The delivery was a much welcomed relief for quarantinees, who have been putting up with unappetizing meals and questionably prepared food supplied by a caterer that now faces prosecution over its allegedly poor hygiene standards.
Upon a check done by the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department, Danny Catering Service was found to have unclean food and items stored at improper temperatures at their production facility, according to the South China Morning Post.
Earlier this month, at least 16 people came down with food poisoning at Penny’s Bay. The caterer has since been replaced.
Online, those stuck in quarantine expressed appreciation for Dough Bros’ pizza delivery. “Thank you so much!! Those pizzas were the highlight of my weeks in there!” One person wrote on the restaurant’s Facebook post.
Others praised Dough Bros for shrewdly seizing a golden PR opportunity. The restaurant’s act has received considerable coverage in media outlets, and photos of their delivery have also been shared on Instagram and Facebook, as well as local forum LIHKG.
“Well that’s where I’ll get my next pizza from!” One Twitter user commented.
