Hong Kong Hit by T8 Storm Warning: Schools and Most Government Offices Closed, MTR Corporation Running Reduced Service
Hong Kong was brought to a standstill on Monday as the Observatory hoisted the city's first T8 signal of the year.
The T8 signal is the third-highest storm warning and it remains in place, causing many facilities to remain closed all day, including banks and most government offices.
The Hong Kong Stock Exchange will also be closed for the day.
The Education Bureau had announced that all full-day schools would be closed on Monday due to the inclement weather.
Transport services have also been affected by the T8 signal, with the MTR Corporation running a reduced service on most lines.
The MTR Buses and in-town check-in for the Airport Express have also been suspended.
Tram, ferry, and most bus routes will also be suspended.
The Airport Authority has advised passengers to check the status of their flights before heading to the airport.
As of 6 am, the government call center had received three reports of fallen trees, but none of landslides or flooding.
The Hospital Authority confirmed that it had not received any reports of anyone being admitted to public hospitals because of storm-related injuries.
In preparation for the storm, 29 temporary shelters have been opened in the territory, and 92 people have sought refuge, according to authorities.
Residents have been advised to stay indoors and avoid travel if possible, with the storm bringing strong winds and heavy rain to the region.
