A trio of raiders escaped with more than HK$23 million (US$2.95 million) worth of valuables from a luxury home of a fortune-teller in upmarket district The Peak in the early hours of Sunday in Hong Kong.

Police have launched a citywide manhunt to trace the three men, but no arrests had been made by lunchtime.

Preliminary investigations found a HK$13 million diamond ring, several watches valued about HK$10 million and jewellery worth about HK$600,000 were stolen from the house, a source familiar with the case said.

The break-in was discovered when one of two female tenants discovered the three men ransacking the living room of the house on Mount Kellett Road just after 2am.

The burglars fled before police arrived.

Police said signs of ransacking were also found in bedrooms.

The Post has learned that one of the two female tenants of the home is a fortune-teller aged about 50. The other woman, aged 32, is her niece.

Detectives from the Central district crime squad are in charge of the investigation.

Police handled 646 cases of burglary across the city in the first nine months of the year, down nearly 40 per cent from the 1,071 cases logged in the same period in 2021.
