A driver escaped serious injuries after his car was slammed into a roadside railing in a collision with a Light Rail train at a Tuen Mun junction on Sunday afternoon.
A viral video taken by the dash cam of another vehicle shows the SUV making a right turn at the intersection of Wu King Road and Wu Shan Road near Siu Hei LRT station at about 12.20pm. Just as the car is crossing the LRT tracks, an oncoming train slams into its side, knocking it into – and partially on top of – a pedestrian barrier lining the adjacent pavement.
The driver sustained minor injuries in the crash, but did not need to be sent to hospital.
Street signs at the scene indicate right turns from Wu King Road onto Wu Shan Road are not allowed. Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
An MTR Corporation spokesman confirmed that the collision took place on route 507, and added that a review of video clips of the accident indicated the train was advancing in accordance with the traffic signal at the time.
The crash interrupted service on routes 507, 614 and 614P. Free shuttle buses were arranged to pick up affected passengers until about 1pm, when service began to resume.
