Hong Kong Chief Executive Thanks Indonesian Domestic Helpers and Signs 15 Agreements with Indonesia
Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu expressed his gratitude towards Indonesian domestic helpers in Hong Kong during a press conference in Jakarta yesterday.
He also signed 15 memorandums of understanding with Indonesia in trade, finance, logistics, and aerospace.
The agreements aim to promote cooperation between the two cities and open up new opportunities for businesses in Hong Kong.
Lee praised the contribution of Indonesian domestic helpers in Hong Kong, saying that they are highly valued by many families in the city.
"To many of our working families, they are not just their helpers, but also their friends, and even regarded by many as family members.
We highly value their great contributions to our society throughout the years," he said.
During his visit, Lee also met with Indonesian President Joko Widodo and thanked him for supporting Hong Kong's accession request to the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership.
The two leaders discussed the move of Indonesia's capital from Jakarta to a new city on Borneo called Nusantara next year.
Lee also visited the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Rail, which will open next month.
The railway is the first high-speed rail project in Southeast Asia under China's Belt and Road Initiative.
Lee took a test ride on the railway and was welcomed by Ju Guojiang, chairman of China Railway International Company, and the senior executives of the railway's operator, PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China.
During his visit to Indonesia, Lee also met with the Hong Kong community and business leaders.
He joined a business lunch hosted by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and signed 15 agreements with Indonesia.
The luncheon included more than 300 entrepreneurs from Hong Kong and Indonesia, including Richard Li and Kennedy Wong Ying-ho, honorary president of the Hong Kong Chinese Importers' & Exporters' Association.
Lee's delegation will head for Kuala Lumpur today and return on Saturday.
The SAR government remains committed to promoting cooperation and development with other countries and regions, as part of its efforts to strengthen economic ties and enhance the well-being of its citizens.
