Hong Kong can be viewed as now “living with Covid-19,” said health expert David Hui Shu-cheong on Saturday, as he explained that half of the population have caught the coronavirus already and cited that high levels of vaccination rate.
Hui said in an interview with mainland media that over 90 percent of Hongkongers may have been infected with
Covid already.
Although the daily infection tally exceeded 10,000, most of the patients showed mild symptoms, and only about 20 cases were in serious or critical condition, Hui noted, saying that the SAR has built a barrier against severe symptoms.
Hui added that the
coronavirus has yet to be exterminated under the pandemic, and the overall infection number is not an indicator that really matters that much.
The health stressed what matters is the ratio of severe cases and suggested further boosting the vaccination rates.
He continued that Hong Kong can live with the virus because of the high transmissibility of the Omicron subvariant, allowing the virus to quickly infiltrate communities. And authorities should adjust the anti-pandemic rules according to reality.
