Hong Kong as a leading international legal hub irreplaceable, says Teresa Cheng
Hong Kong is irreplaceable because of its financial and legal infrastructure, the business opportunities and the pool of talents, said Teresa Cheng Yeuk-wah, Secretary for Justice.
Cheng wrote on his blog today that she noted a media organization has recently reported that some international corporations consider “excluding Hong Kong from legal contracts”.
However, on a webinar organized by the Asian Academy of International Law last month, she said legal practitioners and professionals have revealed that Hong Kong’s stable business environment, the free flow of capital, a low and simple tax system, and its reliable legal system have been the strong foundations of Hong Kong being a leading international legal hub.
“Despite all the challenges ahead, experience sharing by the international practitioners in the webinar has provided facts and data for one to appreciate that Hong Kong will continue to thrive in financial and commercial activities,” she said.
“And, as talents always follow the money, a comprehensive range of world-class services would be available.”
She also added that Hong Kong will be an ideal place for people and businesses to connect and excel.
