Hong Kong actor Max Cheung on the sacrifices he made to buy his first house
Cheung allowed himself to spend only RM134 a day so he could save up.
One of the biggest achievements that most of us strive for is owning a property to call home. It’s undoubtedly not an easy task and often requires years of saving and planning.
This was the same case for Hong Kong actor Max Cheung who shared the challenges when it came to saving up for the family home that he currently resides in.
During his guest appearance on the TVB variety show How To Buy A House, Cheung spoke about the tricks and sacrifices he had to make in order to save up for his dream house.
The 42-year-old actor said he would watch his daily expenses and limit how much he could spend each day; he would only spend HS$250 (RM134) a day back when he was a bachelor. The less he spent, the better. "Even if it was only HK$1, I would still save it,” he said.
The star also opened up about the sacrifices he had to make when it came eating. “After working hours, I would eat at the TVB canteen as it was cheaper,” he explained. “I would stay back after filming at the locations as they would have free meals prepared for us. If I had gone back earlier, no (free) meals would be available.”
Another tactic deployed by Cheung which he wasn’t too proud to admit, was when he attended wedding ceremonies of his friends. The actor confessed that he would give a lesser amount in the red envelopes at the reception. “I would only attend for a short while and give a smaller cash amount so I could save more.”
Chueng now resides in a three-bedroom apartment at Metro City, a housing complex in Hong Kong, with his wife and two children.
