Home Affairs chief Alice Mak thanks citizens who join community care for love not money
Home affairs chief Alice Mak Mei-kuen said the response has been overwhelming since the application for the community care teams opened on Monday. She added that some kind-hearted citizens don’t do it for the money, hitting back at criticisms for low levels of funding.
Mak, the Secretary for Home and Youth Affairs, said some are even willing to spend money and put effort into district services alongside the government.
Mak noted that many local organizations are enquiring about the application for the community care teams, and the Home and Youth Affairs Bureau is now handling their applications.
Mak also said she is happy that many do not ask for monetary rewards when considering joining the community care teams.
She pointed out that the ultimate goal of the scheme is to unite society to perfect district services and care for people who are in need.
The scheme also serves as a channel and platform to gather social resources and networks to care for citizens.
She hoped everyone could do their part and contribute to the city to achieve the goal of common prosperity.
