Starting September 1, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology students and faculty members must submit Covid-19 vaccination proof or regular test results to get an electronic pass for accessing campus.
In a mass email to students, the university told them to upload proofs to its online system in order to get an electronic pass for entering campus.
Their access to campus and facilities including halls, library and sports facilities will be “denied immediately" if they fail to meet the requirements for admission, the email stated.
The requirements apply to university members who enter campus regularly, including students, staff, university residents including staff family members and domestic helpers, regular visitors, and contractors.
Students are responsible to register any family members or domestic helpers living on campus and declare their vaccination or testing status.
The online system will be available to students from August 18. Electronic passes will be issued after uploading.
Students are reminded that failure to meet the requirements may also result in potential consequences such as being unable to meet attendance or course requirements, or missing exams.
Students that are not able to receive
vaccines due to medical issues may pick up free rapid test kits at or near the university healthcare center and upload the relevant medical certificates to the system at least one day prior to pickup.
The university will review the system in light of the outbreak and will announce the arrangements after December 31 at the end of the year.
