HK sees cases keep dropping as logging 7,218 new Covid infections and 10 deaths

Hong Kong sees the number of daily confirmed Covid-19 cases continuing to drop despite the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday, with 7,218 new patients reported on Tuesday, including 151 imported cases and ten deaths.
To confirm whether the epidemic has been alleviated, Albert Au Ka-wing, Principal Medicine & Health Officer (Epidemiology) of the Department of Health said that the daily figures have to stand at around 7,000 to 8,000 and maintained for two weeks.

"The decline of the reported cases may be due to people's reluctance to do Covid tests during the festival," he noted.

Au said that 2,886 cases were reported from 991 schools after the holiday.

The 10-year-old boy who was diagnosed infected last week and hospitalized in Princess Margaret Hospital was still in severe conditions, but he could now breathe without a ventilator.

Among the ten fatalities of five men and five women aged from 52 to 95, five were triple-vaccinated, said Au.

Seven care homes for the elderly and three for the disabled have reported 24 infected cases of residents and staff.

Public hospitals now accommodate 2,885 Covid patients, including 343 newly admitted, 52 in critical conditions, and 61 with severe symptoms, according to Sara Ho Yeun-ha, Chief Manager (Patient Safety and Risk Management) of the Hospital Authority.
