HK releases electric vehicle roadmap, targetting zero carbon emission from vehicles by 2050
Hong Kong announced its first roadmap on the popularisation of electric vehicles, with the target of ending the sale of conventional fuel-propelled private cars by 2035 and achieving zero carbon emission from vehicles by 2050.
The Environment Bureau today published the Roadmap on Popularisation of Electric Vehicles, promoting the use of both private electric vehicles and electric commercial vehicles.
Environment chief Wong Kam-sing said authorities have set targets to enhance the city’s charging network, providing up to 5,000 chargers open to the public by the year 2025, along with charging facilities in private buildings increased to over 150,000.
The bureau will also look into forming new legislation to have producers collect the waste batteries of their brands.
