HK records 16 new Covid-19 cases with one visits Lei Yue Mun market

Hong Kong has recorded 16 new Covid-19 infections today, bringing the tally to 11,525 cases.
Only one of the 19 newly reported infections locally transmitted with an untraceable source. There were also three preliminary confirmed and 15 imported cases.

The local infection involved a 32-year-old man who lived in Yau Tong with his family. He had a sore throat and eye swelling last Tuesday.

He consulted two different two doctors on the 1st and 2nd of this month and confirmed having coronavirus after testing.

The patient worked in the Fortress in Mong Kok Wai Fung Plaza Shopping Arcade. As his last working day was March 22, dozens of employees needed to quarantine.

His wife gave birth in United Christian Hospital two weeks before, and the patient went to the hospital corridor for picking his wife. He accompanied his wife and son to consult the doctor in Kwun Tong Maternal and Child Health Centres last month.

Meanwhile, the patient visited Lei Yue Mun market, where the other two coronavirus patients have also been there at different times. Health officials were afraid that there was a transmission chain in the market.

Visitors and staff who visited Lei Yue Mun Market and Fortress in Mong Kok after March 24 were required to undergo mandatory testing for Covid-19.

As for the imported cases, five arrived from India to Hong Kong yesterday and four from Pakistan. The other six came back from the Philippines to Hong Kong.

Eight of the imported cases have tested variant Covid-19, taking the tally total to 173.
