HK logs 6,260 new Covid cases with 10 deaths

Health officials confirmed 6,260 new Covid-19 patients reported on Monday, including 174 imported cases and 10 deaths, marking a continuous decline trend in four days.
Among the 10 fatalities aged 55 to 93, seven had not received three vaccines, said Gladys Kwan Wai-man, Chief Manager (Medical Grade) of the Hospital Authority.

She also confirmed that 1,881 cases were reported from 866 schools involving 1,618 students and 263 faculty members. Twenty schools need to suspend classes for one week.

Eight cases were reported in four care homes for the elderly and the disabled, involving 58 residents needing to receive nucleic acid tests, said Albert Au Ka-wing, Principal Medical and Health Officer of the Communicable Disease Branch of the Centre for Health Protection of the Department of Health.

Public hospitals now accommodate 2,647 Covid patients, including 233 newly admitted, 56 in critical conditions, and 59 in severe conditions, according to Kwan.

Secretary for the Civil Service Ingrid Yeung Ho Poi-yan announced to have convinced 17 elderly to receive vaccinations during yesterday’s visit to around 900 households in Wong Tai Sin, claiming the government encourages the early vaccination of the young and old for self-protection.
