HK adds 3,674 Covid cases, Shenzhen Bay travelers without negative results to undergo isolation

Travelers who fail to obtain a negative Covid-19 test result at Shenzhen Bay Port will be issued an isolation order immediately as Hong Kong reported 3,674 confirmed cases on Thursday.
Among the new cases, 3,417 were locally transmitted, including 1,365 confirmed via PCR tests and 2,052 verified positive RAT results.

The Centre for Health Protection also reported 257 imported cases, 117 of which were identified at the airport, including 74 from the UK. The other 119 infections were detected at designated quarantine hotels, and 21 were located in local communities after the patients completed the seven-day isolation.

Chuang said the authorities will improve the Shenzhen Bay departure procedures starting on Thursday, travelers need to obtain a negative result before continuing the trip. Otherwise, they will be immediately issued an isolation order and sent to a community isolation facility.

Meanwhile, people undergoing home quarantine will have to wear electronic bracelets starting on Friday.

The Hospital Authority reported five new death -- two men and three women aged 65 to 90, pushing the death tally of the fifth wave to 9,214.

The center was informed of 355 new cases from 292 schools today. Four schools will suspend certain classes for a week after the students and teachers caught Covid.

They include Box Hill (HK) International Kindergarten & Pre-school – Fo Tan, S.K.H. Holy Spirit Primary School, Chun Tok School, Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Yiu Dak Chi Memorial Primary School (Yuen Long).

Six residents from four residential care centers were also infected with Covid.

The city added 62 suspected cases of the BA.2.12.1 Omicron variant and 32 suspected cases of the BA.4 or BA.5 Omicron variants.

Public hospitals and treatment facilities are now housing 1,060 Covid patients. Among them, 20 are in critical condition, 23 are in serious condition, and eight are in hospital intensive care units.
